I had completely forgotten how great a song “Frenchette” was, and this solo performance by David Johansen does it particular justice. However, I had no idea late-period New York Doll Chris Robison had sued Johansen for songwriting credit until I saw his forlorn post in the comments.

If you’ve seen New York Doll, the documentary about Arthur Kane and the 2004 Dolls reunion, it is touching how badly some of Johansen’s quieter bandmates seem to crave his approval and affection. In contrast, he seems focused on the music.
