Herr Machine

“I don’t think of death in an obsessive way, I don’t think I do. I am more interested in what I am doing and what I want to do. I don’t see the value of partitioning your hard drive to accommodate a constant awareness of death. It’s the one, single thing that is going to happen to you, so while I wouldn’t suggest running in front of speeding trains, I would not lose too much sleep on the one thing that is unavoidable. I think about time spent well more than anything.”

—Henry Rollins, from WHAT THE FUCK HAVE YOU DONE? The Personal Blog of Glen E. Friedman

I know Henry Rollins mostly from his essays and a few videos, including (of course) his interview with Rufus Wainwright. I don’t know his back catalog as well as I would like to, but I admire him mainly for his work ethic and the clarity of his thinking. I think we could do a lot worse than Henry Rollins for President of the United States, because Henry is more of a true Independent than the likes of Ron Paul will ever be. But he’s also far too smart to take the job.
